Intro

I grabbed Shigure Ui’s first physical album, “Mada Ame wa Yamanai,” a while back, but honestly, I mostly just had “rainy lady” on repeat. Then, last week, I stumbled upon the limited first-edition of her second album, “fiction,” and snagged it. While checking it out, I went back to “Mada Ame wa Yamanai” and realized I’d totally overlooked this gem of a track!

Initially, after one listen, this song didn’t really click. But a couple of days ago, a melody just kept looping in my head. I figured it was Shigure Ui’s voice, but “fiction” wasn’t quite it. I found similar vibes but couldn’t pinpoint the exact track. So, I broadened my search, listened to this song, and boom—that familiar feeling hit.

Speaking of the song, its rhythm is pretty solid. But that sudden line, “Kimi wa watashi no taiyou” (You are my sun), instantly lifts your mood, especially when you’re feeling a bit down. Yuika’s “Okusuri” kind of gives a similar vibe too, though it’s a tad more upbeat.

When I was translating, I wasn’t sure how to tackle the title. Halfway through, the ‘color’ theme just clicked. Also, “pris” made me think of both “prison” and “prism.” Given the context (and “prison magic” being a definite no-go), I went with the latter—it feels way cuter.

Finally, I’m not sure if Shigure Ui just digs rain, or if it’s for thematic consistency, but the whole album feels connected, right? “Mada Ame wa Yamanai” means “The Rain Hasn’t Stopped Yet.” “rainy lady” refers to herself as a “rainy season lady.” Then, “pris-magic!” features the lyric “Kimi wa watashi no taiyou” (You are my sun), shining on me. It ties together like this: “My mood was gloomy like the rain, but your appearance illuminated me, brightening my spirits.” (Though “fiction,” her second album, also has a rainy cover.)
